REMOTE CONTROL OPERATING CENTRE - RCOC (Port of Singapore/Schneider)

Mission: How to increase efficiency by allowing one crane operator to control multiple cranes at once.

Solution: Silicomp, in collaboration with Schneider, designed the RCOC for the remote control of cranes. As cranes are an integral part of PSA’s operation, the entire system was designed with full redundancy ensuring minimum down time. Therefore Silicomp created a replication the control cabin in a remote room. This required complete Real-Time (less than 200 ms) transmission of video, voice and data, over a high speed network, to the remote room allowing the operator to visualize and control the crane, as if he were in the crane cabin himself. ATM was the chosen solution thanks to its high bandwidth and fast switchability.

Silicomp’s role was to provide:

a) The Video-Boxes for the compression and digitization of video, voice and data.
b) Consultancy for the design of the ATM network solution needed.
c) The SCADA and data-exchange software infrastructure used for the increased effeciency of multi-vendor integration application.
d) Complete software integration work including hot-standby and fully redundant architecture.

SMART CARD PILOT PROGRAMME (Gemplus Technologies)

Mission: Each type of Smart Card required a pilot software program for the configuration of each Smart Card which resulted in the creation of several versions of software, each version requiring constant maintaince and updating.

Solution: Silicomp, in collaboration with Gemplus, designed a new pilot program with a configurable structure which allows one software program to configure many types of Smart Cards. This program needed to have 'the look and feel' of a typical Windows program and yet be able to modify its menu settings to adjust to different Smart Cards.

INFRA-RED LEARNER (Goldstrom Proteq Technologies)

Mission: The remote and automatic control home devices like air-conditioning machines, TV, Hi-Fi, Alarms etc.

Solution: Many home appliances today are controlled using Infra-Red. Our solution, the Home Automation Controller, controls the chosen devices via Infra-Red. The Infra-Red Learner was designed to learn all the infra-red codes of the various home devices.

COAL HANDLING FOR A STEAM POWER PLANT (Schneider)

Mission: The Steam Power Plant located at Suralaya, West Java, required an upgrade in order to produce additional 2.4 Gwatts (4unitsx600 Mwatts/unit) which was needed to support the increasing demand of electricity in the area of West Java. Schneider’s role in the project was to provide a PLC-based Coal Handling Control System from the point when the coal arrives in the ship up to the point where the coal is delivered in the bunkers as a fuel source, producing steam.

Solution: Based on Schneider’s expertise in the field of industrial automation, Schneider developed a system which used redundant Telemecanique PLCs and networks to support the key automation process. In collaboration with Schneider’s engineers, Silicomp assisted Schneider in the ordering of the conveyor system and the centralized Alarm Supervisory System.

AIRFIELD LIGHTING CONTROL SYSTEM FOR FUZHOU AIRPORT (China)

Mission: Airfield Lighting guides aircraft during its take off, taxiing and landing. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), specifies the minimum requirement for Airfield operation and is constantly increasing the levels of safety and reliability airfield lighting.

Solution: Based on a network of 2 PLCs (Allen Bradley) and seven redundant Man Machine Interface (Wonderware InTouch), Silicomp developed all the software needed to obtain local control from the North and South electrical sub-station, as well as a remote control from the control tower.

ATM/VIDEOBOX CUSTOMERS (ST Computer Systems & Green Information)

Mission: Efficient management of highspeed ATM network(s).

Solution: VideoBox is Silicomp’s answer to the transmission of Video, Audio and Data over ATM. The VideoBox digitizes and compresses live PAL/NTSC Video which is transmitted over ATM network. The video is of broadcast quality and conversion takes place in Real-Time (ie less 100 ms).
